Propulsion - Test Development Engineer

Your mission
For the design of our spacecraft, we are looking for a Test Development Engineer to contribute to the development of the cryogenic propulsion systems. You will be in charge of the development and operation of a test facility for components, engines at The Exploration Company's premises. In parallel, You will also lead the preparation and the testing of our components outside of the company in coordination with the test bench partner(s).
You will be part of the Propulsion System Team and will report to the Propulsion System Lead. You will work in close cooperation with the Engine Technical Authority and the Chief Engineer for the definition of V&V objectives for subsystems and system demonstrations.

Responsibilities
You have the following responsibilities:
  • Focal point for all discussion with external test bench partners
  • Define the in-house test facility functions, capabilities, interfaces and requirements with the Propulsion System Team
  • Supervise the construction, commissioning, and initial operations of these facilities
  • Coordinate safety and environmental aspect with authorities
  • Perform fundamental fluid flow, heat transfer and structural analysis to contribute to the design and development of the new propulsion test facility
  • Perform data analyses and prepare data reviews and performance reports to evaluate propulsion test facility performance
  • Write test plans, test procedures, maintenance plan and maintain configuration management system
  • Provide support to define, coordinate and control the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the launch vehicle
  • To effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data
  • To write technical documentation and participate to reviews of designed systems

Location
You will perform your duties principally at the Company's premises in Bordeaux. You may be required to travel from time to time to our company’s premises in Munich in the course of your duties.

Your profile
Qualifications / Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical / Aerospace or Physics Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in rocket propulsion system or subsystem testing activities or aerospace-related propulsion testing activities
  • Good knowledge of existing test facilities in Europe 
  • Experience in safely operating complex fluid systems, including high pressure gas, cryogenic fluids, flammables, and hydraulics
  • Experience in environmental constraints (including acoustic) for testing site of propulsive system
  • Experience in test and integration procedures of cryogenic aerospace propulsion systems or pressurized system
  • Good understanding of test procedures, industry standards, and best-practices
  • Experience in RAMS analysis (FMECA, ZA, ..)
  • Good knowledge of common fluid and structural components and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of thermodynamic principles as applied to cryogenics and high-pressure systems, to ensure test facilities can provide physical parameters required for system or component
  • Experience using CAD to design parts/assemblies is an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Space enthusiast: ready to change the European space industry
  • Fluent in French is more than welcome as regular meeting with external partners and public services is expected
  • Fluent in English. German is an asset
